Sage holds 99 company files. At year end close, you can always restore the company file you just closed. Change the name on the file by going to top menu bar. Maintain> company information and add the years in front of the name.

It is actually good to close them because after you file your tax return, you should not be able to change the company data. Otherwise Retained Earnings will not be correct in the following year.
