All reporting preset date filters are for incomplete period.
"This" Period, Quarter, Year are only good and same as This "period" to Date.
There is no Yesterday, Last Week, Last Month, Last Quarter... that is on a complete period. Depending on regular internal auditing or reporting, these type of ranges seem more natural.
