I have set Sage 50 to give me a reminder every 7 days if I haven't backed up. Sage will give me the reminder only when I close Sage. It will ask if I'd like to back up my data. Whether I click yes or no, nothing happens. No data backup occurs. Considering your program is likely critical to the running of any business that uses it, and you have no answer for lost data, I would say this is amongst the highest priorities possible.
